Yellow Rattle

Yellow Rattle © Laurie CampbellYellow RattleIn late summer, the dry seedpods of this plant rattle loudly, and this used to be taken as a sign that it was time to harvest the hay. Yellow rattle is a good plant for recreating flower-rich hay meadows, as its roots fix to those of grasses, weakening the grasses and allowing other flowers to set seed.

Yellow Rattle is found particularly in species-rich hay meadows.
